Swan Receives B-APCO Life Member Award

Duncan Swan, director at Mason Advisory, received a Life Member Award at the annual B-APCO conference on 21 March.

The award recognizes Swan’s outstanding contribution and professional guidance to the association, as well his efforts in improving public safety in general. Keith Phillips OBE, British APCO (B-APCO) immediate past president, presented Swan with the award.

“British APCO exists to promote and represent the interests of all those engaged in public safety, whether it be from an operational, technical or commercial perspective,” Phillips said. “In pursuing its objectives, as a voluntary, not for profit organization, B-APCO relies on its membership and officers to not only support but actively engage in furthering the association’s work.”

Swan has consistently and actively supported the association over many years, including serving as chairman of B-APCO’s Commercial Advisory Group.

“The award of life membership represents the highest honor the association can bestow,” Phillips said. “It is, therefore, significant that both the association’s board of directors and executive committee endorsed the award of life membership to Duncan, which is truly well deserved.”

Swan has been working in the industry for more than 30 years on mission-critical programs and currently manages the Mason Advisory team working with KBR, the U.K. Home Office’s delivery partner for the £1 billion Emergency Services Mobile Communications Programme (ESMCP). Previous work includes leading the technical advisory team for the U.K.’s Ambulance Radio Programme and advising the U.K. police on its £2.5 billion Airwave rollout.

“It’s truly an honor to be granted life membership of B-APCO — and the association is absolutely buzzing at present,” Swan said. “There is still much to do to inform and educate the public-safety community about how they can shape their future, meaning B-APCO has never been more relevant.”
