Southern California Digital Network Goes Live with NEXEDGE (7/15/10)
Mobile Relay Associates (MRA) announced immediate availability of a digital repeater network covering Southern California in the counties of Los Angeles, Orange County, San Bernardino and Riverside.
The network uses Kenwood Communications’ NEXEDGE technology for voice and data communications. MRA officials said the features are similar to a cellular network with calls to one or many by private calling or group calling without restrictions to the size of the group.
Fireline Network Solutions, which provides wireless broadband wireless services in Southern California, committed to deploying MRA’s network to all its field technicians in its regional network. The technicians travel into many areas that cellular doesn’t cover, and they are often without communications.
Software applications are driven by customer needs, such as using a cellular radio to send information to the NEXEDGE two-way digital radio via the iPhone, Blackberry or Windows platform cellular device. Devices that provide GPS vehicle location, status reports of vehicle engine health and information on how a driver is operating a vehicle work with the network.
