Canadian Railway Deploys Mentor ITS System (7/22/10)
Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, implemented an intelligent transportation system (ITS) solution from Mentor Engineering for its 217-vehicle fleet.
An outdated radio/AVL system reduced the communications efficiency between HSR's drivers and dispatchers. Additionally, the Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC) ruled transit agencies must announce every bus stop for every route. In response to these issues, HSR chose a Mentor ITS solution to track vehicles, automate stop announcements, improve communications and optimize service.
